About makeplace
makeplace has been providing sewing and crafting courses and lessons since 2010 teaching and helping complete beginners and improvers to learn new skills. We are a family business, connected to Anglian Fashion Fabrics and Anglian Furnishing Fabrics, trading since 1974 we have a respected reputation for stocking unusual and inspiring fabrics and haberdashery, as well as having knowledgeable staff.
We offer professional lessons in a dedicated, well-equipped workspace. Our aim is that your project will be finished to a high standard within your course time. We keep our class sizes smaller so that students have more time with the tutor and projects are more focused.
Our tutors have lots of teaching experience as well as course skills and a love of making and creating!
Classes cater for all skill levels and are generally 2.5 hours long. We will resume classes as single, 'stand-alone' units; meaning generally what you start - you finish, giving you confidence to know projects are achievable. All equipment, sewing machines, overlockers and fabrics etc are supplied with your class price (unless specifically stated).
Tim Gidney
'I'm Tim Gidney, I've been sewing for nearly 50 years and teaching for over 15 years. My aim is to get you sewing Accurately, Creatively and Efficiently (ACE). I will teach you the tips and tricks that I have learnt over the years to give you a real head start with your projects and produce items you can be proud of.'
I have been involved in the fabric trade since 1971. I have worked on theatre and designer projects as well as bespoke made-to-measure commissions. In the past I have even been a finalist in regional and national sewing competitions!
Menswear is my main interest, but the skills I have enable me to work on many projects and I enjoy sharing my knowledge and renowned patience with others through teaching.
