Your sewing machine service; what do we include?

Our sewing machine service continues to go from strength to strength. Being professional in our dealings with customers, reasonable in price and honest in advice is appreciated. Talk to Tim if you would like a service or have machine issues - chances are they're known problems/fixes.

For our basic service we -

  • Take the machine completely apart (base, front and back covers etc) - there is no other way! We also take before and after pictures.
  • Check the plug and connections to machine and foot control.
  • Check belt(s), motor, top and bottom gears (essential), timing, bobbin case and hook (for potential needle strikes), needle post positioning and tension, assembly.
  • Clean out old grease, lint and check for broken pins and needle parts (quite common).
  • Reassemble, stitch test on straight and decorative stitches (if your machine has them)
  • Present the stitch test and issue a report on work done (and if there are issues that need further attention)
  • Inform you if there are broken parts or replacement issues before embarking on remedial work.
  • Clean outer casing and remove scuff marks (if possible)
  • Provide you with a written report on work and recommendations.

*Some machines are notorious for being difficult to take apart (mainly lower end modern ones) or have reached the point where the plastic is brittle. We have the experience to know when to go carefully! In some cases we will offer a 'left hand service' ie timing, stitch tension, post positions, bobbin case inspection etc at a lower price. If we have to 'go in'further for gears or belts we wil let you know.

Points to consider -

  • Beware the service offered solely on fast turnaround.
Old adage - cheap/fast/good - choose any two!
  • The service provider who 'knows all machines'. There are thousands of different make and model combinations - nobody has been trained on every one but experience goes a long way.
  • If you have a specific problem or repair we can deal with it outside of a full service. If it is cheaper for you to purchase the part yourself for us to fit we will tell you - or we can source for you.
We can look at most makes of machine but will point out beforehand if the model has known problems, parts are unobtainable or the work might not be cost effective for us or the customer.
